This week, I had a conversation with Lourdes Sandoval. Lourdes is younger than me as she is a second year majoring in Criminal Justice. She aspires to be a detective and this is the first art class that she has ever taken. She is also nineteen years old. I learned all of this information about her before diving into the question of the week. This week’s question encouraged us to discuss whether art is important in today’s world. Lourdes thinks art is important in today’s world. For her, art is a way of expressing yourself. She then went on to say that music, painting, and whatever you consider to be art is art. To her art is relate-able, which is why her favorite type of art is photography. She exercises her love of photography by constantly taking picture of others. Not only does she exercise her love of photography, but she enjoys admiring other artists’ photography by visiting art galleries.
Lourdes and I both agreed that art is important in today’s world despite having different reasons for our beliefs. We also agreed that art is subjective. Her favorite type of art is photography, mine is film. That just goes to show that art has a lot to offer to a myriad of people with different likes and dislikes.
